This is the teacher application for the 2017-18 School Year. This application opens on January 5, 2017 at 12:00 PM. 

We are still accepting Mid-Year teacher applications for the 2016-17 SY. Click here to begin a teacher application for the current school year.

There are three application tracks for the 2017-18 teacher application. One track is for novice candidates, one track is for experienced candidates, and one track is for candidates interested in the Teacher Leadership Innovation (TLI) Teacher Leader position (see below for details).

Candidates with 0 or 1 year of full-time teaching experience by the start of the 2017-18 school year will complete the track for novice teachers. Candidates with two or more years of full-time teaching experience by the start of the 2017-18 school year will complete the application track for experienced teachers. Candidates who are interested in the TLI Teacher Leader position must have three or more years of full-time teaching experience by the start of the 2017-18 school year. 

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN THE TLI TEACHER LEADER POSITION?

You can become a Teacher Leader through the Teacher Leadership Innovation (TLI) program, which offers excellent teachers the opportunity to teach for at least 50% of the day and spend the remainder of their day coaching and leading their peers. TLI Teacher Leaders will receive high-quality professional development and a $2,500 stipend upon successful completion of the TLI program requirements. ARE YOU A CURRENT DCPS TEACHER?

The internal transfer portal is now available for current DCPS teachers. To access the portal, please begin the 2017-18 Teacher application using your dc.gov email address. Note that DCPS teachers who apply to the internal transfer portal will be visible to all school hiring teams. If you are interested in transferring schools, we encourage you to speak with your current principal about your decision. If you are a current DCPS teacher interested in transferring schools and have questions, please email teach.dcps@dc.gov.

NOVICE CANDIDATES:

  1.  INITIAL APPLICATION AND SHORT ANSWER PROMPTS. Answer general employment questions, select your certification area, and submit licensure information. Candidates in certain content areas will also need to complete a brief math assessment. Once you submit your general application responses, you will be asked to complete four short answer prompts.   2. UPLOAD YOUR VIDEO.  After you submit your application and hear back from us, the next step is to show us your teaching in action and upload a 20 – 30 minute video of your teaching. For additional information, click here.
  3. SCHEDULE AN INTERVIEW. Individual candidates will have a 30-minute phone interview with a current DCPS teacher. Successful candidates will enter our recommended pool of teachers.
  4. CONNECT WITH SCHOOL LEADERS. Interview with principals and other school leaders for individual school vacancies.
  5. COMPLETE ADDITIONAL DCPS REQUIREMENTS. This includes a background check and applying for a DC teaching license if not already in possession of one.


EXPERIENCED CANDIDATES: 

  1. INITIAL APPLICATION. Answer general employment questions, select your certification area, and submit licensure information. Candidates in certain content areas will also need to complete a brief math assessment. 
  2. ANSWER SHORT ANSWER PROMPTS AND UPLOAD YOUR VIDEO. Once you submit your general application responses, you will be asked to complete two short answer prompts and upload an audition video. Successful candidates will enter our recommended pool.
  3. CONNECT WITH SCHOOL LEADERS. If selected for our recommended pool, interview with principals and other school leaders for individual school vacancies.
  4. COMPLETE ADDITIONAL DCPS REQUIREMENTS. This includes a background check and applying for a DC teaching license if not already in possession of one.

This position is a safety-sensitive position.  All safety-sensitive positions are subject to mandatory pre-employment drug testing in accordance with the Child and Youth, Safety and Health Omnibus Act of 2004.  If you are tentatively selected for this position, you will be required to submit to testing for illegal drug use prior to employment, and your employment shall be contingent upon negative test results.  If you are appointed into this position, you shall be subject to mandatory random drug and alcohol testing throughout your employment.
